Asda Travel Insurance Review 2025

Asda claims to offer ‘cheap family travel insurance’ to protect you, your partner, and your kids when you’re off on your next family holiday. Our MPO personal finance experts for parents have put this to the test by comparing Asda’s policies and prices with other UK travel insurance brands.

Asda travel insurance is provided by Insure and Go and offers extra perks and discounts including their ‘up to three kids go free’ offer. Asda Money is rated excellent on Trustpilot with a score of 4.6 out of 5.0 Stars. Insure and Go is rated even higher with a score of 4.8 out of 5.0 Stars, appearing at #4 on Trustpilot’s ‘Best Travel Insurance Companies’ list.

Asda offers decent levels of travel cover at a fair price, but their policies might not be the best fit for every family. It’s always best to compare a few travel insurance quotes to find the insurer that offers the best value and the right level of coverage for your family.

60 Second Summary – Asda Travel Insurance Review 2024

Asda is one of several UK supermarkets that claim to offer great travel insurance for parents and families. They do offer several attractive perks, including free child cover which could save you money before your next family trip.

We also compared their policies to Tesco travel insurance and found that Asda offers lower pricing overall, as well as extra benefits like pet care (see below).

  • Asda offers three levels of travel insurance for families (Value, Premium, and Superior), with prices starting at less than £20 for single parents.
  • Parents can personalise their policies, adding benefits like gadget cover or cruise cover so their family has the right level of protection based on their trip.
  • You can only submit travel insurance claims online (except emergency medical claims), so they might not be an ideal choice for less tech-savvy parents.
  • Asda policies are provided by the specialist insurer Insure and Go, so they can be a good option for families where one or more members have medical conditions.
  • UK families can get Asda travel insurance via the Asda website or comparison sites like MoneySupermarket.com, but the ‘3 kids go free’ deal is only available directly through Asda.

Can you buy travel insurance from Asda?

A lot of supermarkets have branched out into banking and insurance services over the last few decades and Asda is no exception to this. You can buy travel insurance from Asda by visiting the Asda Money website or through popular price comparison sites like Money Supermarket.

Asda Travel Insurance Guide

Asda Money explains what travel insurance is and what it does to help protect your family holiday.

You can buy travel cover for a one-off holiday or multiple trips within the next 12 months, with three levels of cover to choose from:

  • Asda Value travel insurance: This is Asda’s budget option for travel insurance, and Asda even describes these policies as ‘no frills’ and ‘basic’ on the website. These policies do still offer a decent level of coverage with £20million in emergency medical cover and up to £1000 per person cancellation cover.
  • Asda Premium travel insurance: Premium policies offer a slightly higher level of protection, with an extra £5million of medical expenses cover and double the pay out if you need to cancel your family holiday.
  • Asda Superior travel insurance: Superior policies offer the highest level of cover for you and your family. Superior customers receive unlimited cover for emergency medical care and up to £5000 cover per person if they need to cancel their trip.

Key benefits of Asda travel insurance for families:

  • Can tailor your policy to your holiday by adding extra benefits like cruise cover, gadget cover, or winter sports cover.
  • Can cover up to 3 children for FREE for every adult on the policy.
  • £20million – unlimited cover for medical emergencies.
  • Can get specific policies for UK staycations if you don’t want the hassle of taking your family abroad.
  • Lots of helpful travel insurance guides and information on the Asda Money website.

Main rules for Asda travel insurance:

  • You must inform Asda Money/Insure and Go about any pre-existing health conditions or symptoms and provide honest information in your application.
  • You need to call Zurich Assist as soon as you can if you are ill or injured on your trip and need to receive medical treatment that you will be claiming for.

Who underwrites Asda travel insurance?

Asda travel insurance is provided by Insure and Go and underwritten by Zurich Insurance, which is one of the UK’s top general insurance companies. Some of your insurance documents will be branded as a Zurich policy, but they do state that the product is Asda travel insurance specifically.

Is Asda travel insurance good for families?

Asda travel insurance has a lot of family-friendly features, including free child cover and pet care to cover extra costs for kennels if your return trip is delayed. There are three levels of cover, which makes it easier to find a policy that fits your family’s budget and needs.

There are a lot of options for travel insurance in the UK, and Asda might not be the best choice for your family’s travel insurance policy. The table below shows the key pros and cons to consider before choosing an Asda travel insurance policy for your family’s next holiday.

Pros and Cons of Asda Travel Insurance

Pros

  • Even the basic ‘Value’ policies offer up to £20million cover as standard.
  • Kids go free on every policy (up to 3 kids per adult).
  • Lots of options for policies including specific policies for UK holidays.

Cons

  • You can’t claim over the phone, as all claims need to be submitted online.
  • You can’t manage your policy or make any changes online.
  • Other companies might offer cheaper quotes depending on the exact details about your family and your holiday.

Does Asda travel insurance cover pre-existing conditions?

Asda claims to ‘consider’ covering all medical conditions, which suggests that they might not cover every possible health issue that you or your children have. When you apply for Asda travel insurance, you will be asked basic questions like:

  • Have you received medical treatment or been prescribed medication within the last 2 years?
  • Have you been registered with a clinic or GP surgery in the last 2 years?
  • Do you have any undiagnosed symptoms that are under investigation?
  • Do you have a terminal illness?

Asda’s insurance partner Insure and Go is known for covering a wider range of medical conditions and is a specialist in medical travel insurance. They might be a better choice for families with medical conditions compared to other supermarket brands like Tesco.

If anyone in your family has a medical condition, it’s always a good idea to compare multiple travel insurance quotes. This can help you find the right cover at a fair price and enjoy your trip with peace of mind that your family is protected if they need medical care.

Are there deals for Asda family travel insurance?

Here are the latest deals for Asda travel insurance that our money saving specialists have found when searching online. We aim to regularly update this page with all the current deals, and you can find more money saving deals for families in our Deals & Discounts section.

  • Up to 3 kids go free for every adult covered by the policy (when buying directly from Asda Money). This is a great offer for larger families but might not be available for everyone. The website states it is ‘subject to medical screening’, so you might not be able to get cover if you or your kids have serious medical conditions.
  • Cashback website Top Cashback currently offers up to £8.50 cashback when you buy Asda travel insurance. It’s not a massive amount of cashback, but every little helps after you’ve just booked a (potentially) expensive family holiday.
  • Websites like VoucherCodes.co.uk contain links for Asda travel insurance ‘deals’. Don’t be tricked into thinking you will save money by using these discount codes. Most of the ‘offers’ point to ‘great value’ policies that you can already get by applying to Asda directly with no code.

All these quotes are for an individual or couple without any medical conditions. If anyone in your family has medical conditions, this will usually affect the price of your policy.

Our MPO experts found that Asda travel insurance is a cheap option for older parents, provided they don’t have any medical conditions to declare. Prices start at less than £20 for individual cover, offering great value if you’re also adding your kids on for free.

Is Asda travel insurance better than Tesco travel insurance?

Asda isn’t the only supermarket brand that offers travel insurance, with another popular option being Tesco travel insurance. Our experts recently reviewed Tesco travel insurance and have put together this table to highlight the main differences between the two brands.

Tesco travel insurance actually performed slightly better than Asda in many areas. Tesco policies include extra perks like zero excess options, unlimited medical cover, and cover for emergency dental care.

Asda does however offer incentives like ‘up to 3 kids go free’, which can drastically reduce the cost of your policy to help you save money. They also offer a much higher pay out for personal accidents (£50,000 maximum compared to £15,000 maximum).

Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide which company offers the right cover for your family or if a completely different insurer is a better choice for you. Read our full Tesco Travel Insurance Review to see all the main pros and cons of Tesco travel insurance and how it might work for your family.

What is Asda rewards travel insurance?

Sometimes Asda travel insurance customers can claim up to £5 in Asda Rewards, which helps you to save money on your next food shopping trip. This reward was previously offered up until September 2024, and Asda has offered this particular reward several times in the past. You will need to sign up for an Asda Rewards account, before you can claim any Asda Rewards points.

Asda Rewards can be a great way to help you and your family to save money on everyday essentials like food or clothes shopping (George at Asda). Other supermarkets which sell travel insurance also offer schemes (e.g. Tesco Clubcard), so it's a good idea to see what offers you could take advantage of with their policies as well.

Can you use Asda colleague discount on travel insurance?

Asda colleagues can claim a range of great discounts, including 10% off Asda pet insurance and 20% off Asda travel insurance. If you work for Asda, you should check to see if you can apply your colleague discount before buying your next travel insurance policy. You may not be able to use the discount alongside other discounts that are available from Asda Money (e.g. the 'kids go free' offer).

Asda colleagues can usually claim a discount on travel money too, if they buy it at an in-store bureau or using the home delivery service. Simply show your photo ID and discount card when you buy or collect your travel money order.
