Known as a ‘budget life insurance provider’, it is usually considered to be one of the cheaper companies and generally better for younger families or for parents with no medical issues.

Is Beagle Street life insurance any good?
Beagle Street is considered to be one of the top budget life insurance brands in the United Kingdom for families and parents. The recent take-over by One Family now means that the brand will be backed by one of the UK’s biggest and most well-known mutual societies to boost the insurers capacity significantly.
Even though Beagle Street is widely regarded as one of the top life insurance brands for families in the UK, they’re still not going to be for everyone and especially not for customers with a pre-existing medical condition.
Pros
- Quick and Simple online quote & apply service that provides instant acceptance or decisions (ideal for customers with no medical conditions).
- Free gifts and offers for new customers (e.g. £100 Amazon gift cards and a free Beagle teddy).
- Budget life insurance options are available from as little as £6 per month.
- Free Estate Planning Kit that includes a simple Will, Trust Tool, and a one hour legal consultation.
- Low-cost Critical Illness Insurance options available that can either be added to your life insurance or taken as an extra benefit.
- One of the highest customer rated life insurance companies on Trustpilot (rated 4.6 out of 5.0 Stars from over 4,500 reviews).
Cons
- Strict medical underwriting which means that they are not ideal for customers with a pre-existing medical condition (e.g. Diabetes, MS, Cancers, etc.)
- Beagle Street does not offer all types of life insurance so your options will be limited.
- Critical illness insurance only covers 21 conditions which is far lower than other high-street brands and only covers up to £300,000 maximum.
- No access to a free online GP service like other major insurance brands offer to customers.
- Beagle Street does not offer any advice to its customers and so you will need to speak to an insurance advisor for this.
- Maximum age for entry is 64 which is lower than other popular insurance brands and cover is only available up to age 79.
The insurer has a customer rating on Trustpilot of 4.6 out of 5.0 Stars from more than 4,500 customer reviews (updated: March 2025) which is one of the highest independent customer scores for life insurance.
According to its latest figures, Beagle Street which is underwritten by Family Assurance Friendly Society has paid out 99.8% of claims in 2023 with a total of £40 million paid out since 2015. It also claims to protect more than 190,000 families in the United Kingdom for life insurance and critical illness insurance.
Key Facts about Beagle Street Family Life Insurance
- Paid out over £40million in claims
- Paid out 99.8% of life insurance claims in 2023
- Protects more than 120,000 families
- Rated ‘Excellent’ on TrustPilot (over 4,500 reviews)
- Online Life Insurance applications (Hassle Free)
It’s hard to say if Beagle Street are ‘good’ for life insurance policies, as this will come down to personal opinion. They do have some solid policy options available, but the range of cover is more limited than it is with other providers on the market and you won’t be able to buy policies like whole life or over 50s cover.

What does Beagle Street life insurance cover?
Beagle Street family life insurance pays out a cash lump sum to your loved ones if you die to help them to pay for regular monthly outgoings as well as things like repaying your mortgage and paying for funeral costs. You can adjust the amount of cover that you need with Beagle Street to tailor your cover to your families needs and to your budget, so that it’s affordable for you.
Life insurance generally works the same regardless of which insurance provider you take cover from and will only exclude suicidal death in the first 12 months of cover. This also usually means that all pre-existing medical conditions will be covered as long as they have been disclosed and you are accepted by the insurer.

You can also now take out critical illness insurance with Beagle Street to protect your family if you’re diagnosed with a serious illness such as Cancer, Stroke, Heart Attack, or any other condition that is covered under the policy (see below for full details). Beagle Street offers critical illness insurance cover from £5,000 up to £300,000 which can be taken with your life insurance, or as an additional benefit.
WARNING: Beagle Street is considered to be one of the best budget life insurance providers for families and cover can be cheaper than some of the more well-known insurance brands. Unfortunately, we know that Beagle Street underwriting can be strict, which means that they are not usually suitable for customers with a pre-existing medical condition (e.g. MS, Diabetes, Overweight, Cancers, Heart Conditions, etc.). If you’ve been refused life insurance with Beagle Street because of your medical history then you should speak to a medical specialist.

Should I buy Beagle Street life insurance?
It is entirely up to you whether you would like to buy life insurance from Beagle Street or if you’d prefer to use a different insurance provider to protect your home and family. There are several benefits that many UK consumers would consider as reasons to buy Beagle Street life insurance such as:
- Terminal illness benefit is included at no extra cost (pays out if you are diagnosed with a terminal illness where a doctor confirms you have less than 12 months to live).
- You have access to dedicated counselling services and extra support.
- Excellent customer service record with over 4,500 positive reviews.
- Pause policy payments for up to 3 months if struggling financially (Financial Hardship Support).
- £5,000 funeral payment pledge included with all policies which pays out £5,000 to cover funeral costs while the claim is being processed.
- FREE Will writing service or use of the Beagle Street Trust tool to have control over how your policy pays out.
- FREE up to £100 Amazon voucher and a Beagle Street life insurance free gift (Beagle soft toy) for new life insurance applicants*.
- Free Estate Planning kit for all new life insurance customers – this includes simple tools to help you with wells and trusts plus one hour of free legal advice.
- FREE companions counselling service in partnership with RedArc to support you if you were diagnosed with a serious medical condition.
While these are all good benefits, I’d still say that it’s worth shopping around and checking what other providers can offer too before you make any decisions. Comparing quotes and benefits across multiple providers can help you to work out if the insurer feels like the right fit for you and if they will offer good value for money for your policy.
NOTE: Offers are active and valid with direct purchases through Beagle Street as of 25/03/2025 and may be pulled or altered at any time following the date of this article’s publication.

Do I need Beagle Street family life insurance?
You don’t necessarily need Beagle Street life insurance specifically – but life insurance itself is a useful policy to have and one that sadly not everyone thinks to buy. Many UK consumers choose to wait to buy life insurance because:
- They think it will be too expensive – often not true, especially when you do some research, check comparison sites or get advice from an expert.
- They think they don’t need it (because they are young, fit, healthy etc.) – realistically there will always be some risk no matter your age or health
- They think savings accounts will work just as well – life insurance will pay out far more than most people will be able to save over their lifetime
Truthfully, no one knows what is around the corner and many families in the UK lose out because their parent/caregiver has died and did not have life insurance in place.
While it is a financial commitment (and one that should be carefully considered), the cost of life insurance is normally far less overall than the amount the policy will pay out and the amount of protection it can provide.
Which Life Insurance do Beagle Street offer?
While most UK providers sell a range of different life insurance policies, Beagle Street is more limited and only sells two types of life insurance which are:
- Level term life insurance (family life insurance) – With these policies the amount you are covered for will never change. They are designed to pay out a cash lump sum to your loved ones in the event of your death. This can be used to cover funeral expenses and other important bills.
- Decreasing term life insurance (mortgage life insurance) – These policies are specifically designed to help repay a mortgage if you were to pass away. The amount you are covered for will decrease over the years as you repay more and more of your mortgage.
One good thing is that you can have single or joint life insurance, so you can protect yourself and your partner under one policy if you want to. If you’re looking for whole life cover, business life insurance or another more specific type of policy, Beagle Street won’t be able to supply this type of cover.
Which Life Insurance do Beagle Street not offer?
Beagle Street is well-known for its simple approach to life insurance for families, which also means that there are some products that they don’t offer. If you need a specific type of life insurance then you might not be able to get it with Beagle Street and you may need to get cover elsewhere. Here are some of the main types of life cover that you can’t get with Beagle Street:
- Whole of Life Insurance
- Family Income Benefit
- Income Protection Insurance
- Over 50s Life Insurance
- Health Insurance
These are some common types of life insurance policies that might be more suitable to your needs and your budget. Typically you can get most of these different types of policies from well-known brands such as L&G, Aviva, Vitality, and LV.

Does Beagle Street offer critical illness insurance?
Yes, Beagle Street also now offers critical illness cover (also known as critical illness insurance) which protects you financially if you are diagnosed with a serious illness like Cancer, Stroke, Heart Attack, or any other condition named under the policy. Beagle Street also has two main policy options for critical illness insurance that allows you to add it to your life insurance or to have it as an extra cover (which does not affect your life insurance if you make a claim).
While you can buy critical illness cover on its own with certain insurers, Beagle Street only sells it as an add on to a new or existing life insurance policy. You can even contact Beagle Street several years after you buy your original life insurance to add on critical illness insurance to increase your level of protection.
You also have the option to add your children to your life insurance policy with Beagle Street children’s critical illness cover. This will pay out 25% of the main policyholder’s chosen benefit (up to £25,000 maximum) if your child is diagnosed with one of the illnesses specified in your policy.

How many critical illnesses do Beagle Street cover?
Most of the main high street life insurance companies cover between 40 and 60 different serious illnesses, which means that you can take a more comprehensive policy if you want to. The top critical illness insurance is Vitality’s Serious Illness Cover which pays out for up to around 150 different types of medical conditions and illnesses.
Beagle Street offers a slimmed down version of critical illness insurance that pays out for a total of 21 different conditions so that they can keep the premiums down. Arguably, these are the most common medical conditions that you could be diagnosed with and if you’re happy with that then this could be a more affordable option for you.

Is Beagle Street critical illness insurance any good?
One main drawback of Beagle Street critical illness cover is that it is only available for Beagle Street life insurance customers. If you don’t qualify for Beagle Street life insurance, you would not be able to buy Beagle Street critical illness cover even if you felt it was your best option for cover.
If you’re already a Beagle Street customer or you’re thinking about buying their life insurance it can be easier to choose then for your critical illness cover as well. A lot of consumers prefer to have all their insurance policies with one provider to keep things simpler.
If you want comprehensive critical illness cover that will pay out for a lot of conditions, it would be better to look at a different insurance provider for this policy.
While Beagle Street does cover a lot of the main conditions people are concerned about, older insurers may offer better value for money by covering a larger number of medical conditions. companies like vitality cover more than 180 medical conditions within their policies (though of course these policies will be slightly more expensive).
How much is Beagle Street life insurance?
Beagle Street claim to be able to provide £200,000 worth of life cover for less than £6 per month on their website. While this might be true for some customers, I would always be wary of blanket statements like this.

When you look further down the page, it is specified that this price would be for 30 year old non smoker, so if you are a smoker or you’re over 30 you’ll probably pay a higher price.
There are many factors that determine how much life insurance will cost, so it’s likely most people will pay more than £6 per month. To work out the price of your cover, Beagle Street would look at factors like:
- Your age
- How much cover you need (£s)
- The type of policy (level term or decreasing)
- If you want to add extra cover (e.g. critical illness cover)
- Smoker status
- General health and lifestyle
Is Beagle Street life insurance worth the price?
If you are looking for a basic life insurance policy (with or without critical illness cover added), you may find that Beagle Street is good value for money for you.
Policies generally aren’t overly expensive, though of course the price will vary based on standard factors like your age and how much cover you need.
If you’re after a policy with a lot of added benefits and extras, such as discounts from partner brands, Beagle Street probably isn’t the right choice for you. There are some good benefits that they include for free though including access to Will writing and Trust support and counselling services for if you are diagnosed with a serious medical condition.
What I will say is someone who has reviewed a lot of life insurance providers, is that all the providers do include more benefits on average including standard ones like online GP access. However, you might find these policies are more expensive, so ultimately it will be up to you to work out which provider you’re most comfortable with and how much you’re willing to pay based on your own budget.
How do I contact Beagle Street life insurance?
It can be a bit confusing to know where to contact when you need to speak to your insurance provider. Beagle Street is good in this way, as they keep things really simple for their customers. They have one Beagle Street life insurance phone number for all customer enquiries including new quotes claims and complaints.

How do I claim on Beagle Street life insurance?
Something that many people don’t think to look at when they’re buying life insurance is how easy it is to claim on the policy. This is understandable, as while it’s good to have a life insurance policy in place for protection, it’s not pleasant to think about what might happen when you actually need to claim.
Something that Beagle Street does which I do think other provider should take on board is they have an ‘Inform Loved Ones’ service for their policies. You can log into your online account and add details for 5 people that you would like to share your policy details with, so they have all the details they need available if they needed to claim.
What percentage of claims does Beagle Street pay out?
According to the Beagle Street website, they paid out for *99.8% of all life insurance claims in 2023.
It’s always a good idea to have a look at the claims statistics for an insurance provider before you buy a policy, to give you an indication of if they’re likely to pay out when you need them to. Beagle Street has a good record for insurance pay outs, so chances are your loved ones shouldn’t run into too many problems if they needed to claim on a Beagle Street life insurance policy.
Note: There is some small print on the Beagle Street website that indicates that they were previously underwritten by Scottish Friendly Assurance Society which paid out these claims. Beagle Street is now underwritten by Family Assurance Friendly Society Limited, so it is possible that the level of claims paid out could be different in the future.
Does life insurance cover suicidal death with Beagle Street?
This topic can be difficult for many people, but asking if life insurance covers suicide is a valid question and not one that people will always ask.
Most life insurance policies will pay out for suicide if your policy has been in place for 12 – 24 months or longer. Beagle Street will pay out for suicidal death after 12 months and like most insurers they will ask about suicidal thoughts or attempts when you apply.
This can be incredibly distressing and Beagle Street will try to be sensitive to this. If you feel that you need some additional support, you can contact Samaritans or the Mental Health and Money Advice service who will be able to help.
Can I get Beagle Street life insurance with pre-existing medical conditions?
It can be possible to get Beagle Street with certain less serious medical conditions but Beagle Street don’t generally accept applications from people with medical conditions.
This is a downside to Beagle Street’s focus on processing applications quickly as they won’t take the time to request more medical information for example. Where another provider would potentially request a GP report and still be able to offer cover, Beagle Street will stop the process at this point and decline cover.
It can be more complicated to get life insurance with medical conditions, especially if symptoms are severe or life changing. This is where I would say it can be useful to talk to a life insurance specialist who understands which insurers will be the best choice for your individual situation.

I’d always recommend reading the review for a company like Beagle Street before committing to buying a policy. Reading current customer reviews can give you an idea of what customers think of the policies and service they have received from Beagle Street.

How do I buy Beagle Street life insurance UK?
There are a few simple ways to buy Beagle Street life insurance if you think one of their policies will work well for the cover you need. You can choose one of the following options to get a Beagle Street life insurance quote:
- Contact Beagle Street directly online or over the phone
- Use a price comparison site to check prices for Beagle Street (and other insurers) to make sure you get a good deal
- Talk to a life insurance expert for specialist advice and guidance
While Beagle Street offers some good and simple policies, they can’t offer full advice on if a policy is right for you and can only explain the policy features.
